Tapeswitch B-Series Safety Light Curtains are full-featured, microprocessor-controlled units designed for optical guarding applications. These photoelectric barriers are suitable for high-risk automation and machine control applications. Special capabilities include beam blanking and a flexible interface that is compatible with common safety relay units, controllers, and fail-safe PLCs. B-Series Safety Light Curtains include an emitter and receiver pair that, by themselves, constitute a complete light curtain system. They provide two redundant solid state PNP type outputs and qualify as a type 4 safety device in accordance with EN61496-1. These outputs can be interfaced directly into the machine control circuit, provided that the circuitry is compatible with PNP type outputs (i.e. safety relays, emergency stop relay packages, fail-safe PLC’s, etc.).
Tapeswitch safety controllers can be used as safety devices for high-risk automation and machine control applications. These safety interface modules provide the highest level of safety by exceeding the requirements of category 3 as defined by EN 954-1. They also meet or exceed the safety content of the applicable OSHA, ANSI, and RIA Standards.
The PRSU/4 and PRSU/5 safety interface modules have redundant safety output relays, are self-monitoring, and are rated Control Reliable, which means that any fault in the safety-critical components will be detected and the machine will be rendered inoperative until the fault is corrected. They are available in a DIN rail-mounted package. The PRSU/4 Safety Controller operates from a 24 VDC or VAC power supply. The PRSU/5 Safety Controller operates from a 115 VAC power supply. Both models feature user-configured manual and automatic reset capability.

Tapeswitch Safety Mats are designed for personnel sensing around in industrial and hazardous locations. Differing models are suited to your situation. These pressure sensitive switch mats feature press-at-any-point actuation. Many standard sizes are in stock, but custom sizes and shapes are easily manufactured to order with short lead times. Tapeswitch Safety Mats can also be made with cut-outs and multiple sensing zones to exactly fit specific applications. Field tested for more than twenty-five years, the surface of our Safety Mats are both moisture and abrasion resistant. The fully-protected switching elements are extremely rugged and reliable, with an operating life of several million cycles.
Our safety mats are typically available with square or ramped edges. They are easy to install and require no special floor preparation or add-on metal edges, although these are available. All safety mats are supplied with 4-lead fail-safe wiring, and are compatible with Tapeswitch Safety Controllers.
Pressure-Sensitive Sensing Edges
Pressure sensitive sensing edges are typically used to protect personnel from injury or equipment from damage. In industrial settings, they can be used on mechanized door edges to detect obstructions or on scissor lifts to provide pinch protection. They are suitable for collision sensors on AGVs , impact detectors on moving platforms, and positioning switches on moving conveyors. In medical applications, such as scanners, they can protect the patient from the moving parts of the equipment.
Sensing edges are most often used in safety applications. For this reason, Tapeswitch includes 4-lead Fail-Safe wiring on all standard models. When used with a Tapeswitch safety controller, the integrity of the sensing edge and all interconnecting wires can be continuously monitored.
Tapeswitch Sensing Bumpers are designed to fit specific application needs. They provide a large, compliant surface that protects personnel or equipment by detecting contact or impact before damage is done. The nylon-reinforced exterior housings are resistant to water, oil, hydraulic fluids, and coolants. Mounting options include studs and threaded holes.
Tapeswitch can make these pressure-sensitive bumpers in various sensitivities, profiles, colors, and lengths. Special options include multiple-surface detection, multiple zones, and high sensitivity. Extra-large sizes and corner designs are also available. Ribbon switch is manufactured in a continuous process capable of producing a single switch thousands of feet long. It is then cut to length and terminated, as required, to make the finished product.
